My younger brother staretd playing poker and he thinks he is great. Well I am super competitive and want to beat him. Any other good books to read .. I read one a texas hold em book that has a navy cover.

Is there anywhere you can get lessons?

A good way to learn is to go to one of the online poker sites (www.partypoker.com for example), download the client, and try the fake money games. Being fake money, the games may not be as realistic as the real money games, but it's certainly a good starting point.

As for books, a lot of people recommend Winning Low Limit Holdem by Lee Jones as a good first book to read.

angelle-

didn't you ask this question (re: books)before? if not...my bad. your question requires a ton more information...

what types of games (hold em, stud, etc.)?
what types of limits (low, high, no-limit)?
are the games going to be heads-up (just you two)?
how good is your brother? (i.e. if he really is awesome your time is better spent doing something else.)

there are probably a few more if you want a good answer.

Angelle,

In addition to the books, you should buy "Turbo Texas Hold'em" software. This is a program where you can play and perfect your game according to the books that you read.

This software costs about $90.00. It simulates a poker game with 10 players. All cards are dealt at ramdom all the time just like in a live poker game.

I only started playing hold'em less than a year ago. However, with the books and this software to train myself on, I have made it to a few final tables at some small tournaments. So far I am ahead of the game in $$$$.

However, I have played about 35,000 hands to date on the software. There is nothing that will get you better than actual play even though it is with the software program. "Practice makes perfect."

The reading is good but you need to put what you read into practice. This software will do it for you.

Good luck!
